Understanding QR Code File Types

When you generate a QR code with OpenQR, you can download it as a PNG, SVG, or JPEG. Each file type has different strengths depending on your use case.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

PNG files are great for most uses. They offer high quality with transparency support and are ideal for web, documents, and general sharing. If you’re unsure, PNG is usually the safest option.

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)

SVG is a vector format, which means it can scale infinitely without losing quality. This is perfect for print materials, logos, or use in design software like Illustrator or Figma. SVGs are also smaller in file size and editable by code.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

JPEGs are best for images that need to be compressed and shared quickly, but they do not support transparency and may slightly reduce quality. Use this format if you're embedding the QR code in an email or need maximum compatibility.

→ Pick the format that fits your needs. OpenQR gives you all three, watermark-free.
